Fattouh: Arab League is coordinating with Arab Bank's Union to launch support account for Lebanon

NNA - The Secretary General of the Union of Arab Banks, Wissam Fattouh, said in a statement on Saturday that the Arab League is coordinating with the Union in launching a bank account under the name, 'The Arab Account for Relief and Support for Lebanon.'

Fattouh indicated that 'Arab banks and financial institutions that are members of the Union will finance this account in support of the Lebanese people's steadfastness, and will contribute to rebuilding what was destroyed by the catastrophic explosion that befell Beirut.'
He deemed that the League's initiative comes 'as a continuation of the relentless efforts initiated by the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to support Lebanon and to emphasize the activation of a pioneering role by the League for the reconstruction of Lebanon.'

'The visit of the League's Secretary-General to Beirut at the head of a delegation, immediately after the Beirut explosion, constituted a clear indication of extending aid to Lebanon and its people,' Fattouh maintained, affirming the Union of Arab Banks' 'keenness and full commitment to the success of this humanitarian project.'

He explained that the funds of this account will be at the disposal of institutions, civil society associations and individuals who were affected by the explosion, following the survey of damages and based on lists obtained from the concerned Lebanese authorities, the Higher Relief Commission, the Lebanese Chambers of Commerce, and trusted Lebanese development associations.

In this context, an emergency online meeting was held through the Zoom application, including Fattouh and the Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Kamal Hassan Ali, Director of Organizations, Ambassador Mohammad Khair, alongside representatives of Arab organizations and bodies operating under the umbrella of the League of Arab States.
