Choucair in Touch Press Conference: I did what my conscience told me to do

NNA - In a press conference on Friday concerning Touch building, Minister of Telecommunications, Mohammad Choucair, confirmed that the building owner had been cooperative, and he did not have to sell the building in the first place.

'I think that I did what my conscience told me to do, and as of September, I will be thinking of Alfa building,' the Minister maintained.

'I think Touch building has become more famous than Khalifah Tower, and what I did is save state funds. After four years, $94 million dollars of the state's funds would be gone with the wind to start with,' he said.

'I had 4 options ahead of me. I either do nothing, buy land in Solidere and build a building, rent -- which turned out to cost $75 million dollars -- or buy the building; consequently, I decided to buy the building,' he added.

'What we're hearing is barking up the wrong tree. The ministry has work to do and nothing will stop us,' he stated.

The Minister confirmed that 'the ratio of income fell by 3% last year. The first payment for Touch building is among my economizing steps this year.'

He finally noted that the country couldn't stand anymore. 'We have a real chance to move things forward.'
