Ministers of Works and Tourism inaugurate first phase of Beirut airport expansion

NNA - Public Works and Transportation Minister, Youssef Fenianous, and Tourism Minister, Avedis Guidanian, on Monday inaugurated the first phase of the departures hall expansion works at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut.

The two ministers toured the new General Security counters and the VIP lounge, and later held a joint press conference in the new press room at the VIP lounge.

The Minister of Works saluted the efforts of Minister of Interior, Raya Al-Hassan, with whom all the work had been coordinated with.

'We have toured with the media to see the progress made at the airport to date,” Fenianous said, promising more work to be done within the coming few months, including a fast track.

“We will all be affected by the changes that have taken place in the arrivals and departures halls,” Fenianous said, adding, “the number of counters we have inaugurated today is 24 for departures to become 34 counters in the western section by the end of June. In the eastern section we have 22 counters,” the Minister explained.

'As for the arrivals hall, we have added 14 new counters,” he said, adding that the VIP lounge access price has risen.

In turn, Minister Guidanian said that he had feared failure to accomplish the work that had promised “because we often question the capabilities of state departments.”

“However, the Works Minister, the security and administrative apparatuses at the Rafic Hariri International Airport, the contractors, and in coordination with the Minister of Interior, have all been able to fulfill their promise to the Lebanese by providing them with an Airport they could never have never imagined on due date (June 1) — not to mention that additional improvements will be witnessed within the next few months,” Guidanian added.
