Abu Faour: We are committed to establishing modern industrial zones

NNA - Minister of Industry Wael Abou Faour, Italian Ambassador Massimo Marotti and UNIDO representative in Lebanon Cristiano Bassini opened the meeting of the committee to present and evaluate the joint projects between the ministry and the UNIDO organization for the benefit of the industrial sector, under the financing of the Italian government.

The meeting focused on two main topics: the development of the second phase of the project to support the establishment of sustainable industrial zones in Lebanon, and the creation of employment opportunities in the food industry through exchange of experiences.

Abu Faour thanked in his word the Italian friends and partners and the UNIDO for their efforts, cooperation and support for the industrial sector in Lebanon.
'I hope that today we will adopt new measures to develop and modernize the productive sectors. With the support of the President, the Prime Minister and the Parliament, we are headed towards a new stage of support to the industry in Lebanon.'

Turning to the subject of the establishment of modern industrial areas, Abou Faour noted that 'this project is very important for Lebanon, and is a priority on the ministry's agenda.'

'We also look forward to the development of the food industry, accounting for about 30 percent of our industrial exports,' he added.

Ambassador Marotti, in turn, said 'We are working to make the partnership at the industrial level the key to the future of economic relations between Lebanon and Italy. Therefore, we support the Lebanese Ministry of Industry in cooperation and coordination with the Italian Cooperation Office, UNIDO, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Development and Reconstruction, in the implementation of project aimed at establishing new and modern industrial areas that attract investment, create new jobs and expand industrial activity in Lebanon.'
