Hariri discusses electricity with Democratic Gathering delegation

NNA - The President of the Council of Ministers Saad Hariri chaired this afternoon at the Grand Serail the first meeting of the ministerial committee on digital transformation.

Deputy Prime Minister Ghassan Hasbani, Ministers Jamal Jarrah, Mohammad Choucair, Adel Afiouni, and May Chidiac, the Director General of the Presidency of the Republic Antoine Choucair and Hariri's Advisor Fouad Fleifel attended the meeting. The committee's work program and priorities were presented, most importantly the establishment of the digital economy in the public and private sectors.

Hariri had earlier received the Minister of State for Information Technology Adel Afiouni and discussed with him issues related to his ministry.

Hariri also met with the Chairman of the United Arab Emirates General Authority for Sports, Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of UAE Ambassador to Lebanon Hamad Al-Shamsi. After the meeting, Romaithi said: 'I had a friendly meeting with Prime Minister Hariri. Our relationship goes back to the year 2006 when I was the director of Lebanon's post-war reconstruction project.'

He added: 'The aim of today's visit is to inform Premier Hariri about my nomination for the Presidency of the Asian Football Confederation. The elections will be held on April 6 and Lebanon's vote is important.'

Hariri also met with the Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil and Central Bank Governor Riad Salame in the framework of regular meetings to discuss the financial situation.
He also received the President of the Lebanese American University Joseph Jabra.

After that, Hariri met with the president of the Samir Kassir Foundation, Giselle Khoury, who invited him to sponsor the Beirut Spring Festival.

In the evening, Hariri received a delegation from the Democratic Gathering that included Minister Wael Abu Faour, MPs Bilal Abdullah and Hadi Abulhassan, and a number of advisers, in the presence of former Minister Ghattas Khoury. Discussions focused on the electricity plan and the delegation briefed the Prime Minister on their views on this subject, particularly in terms of the necessary reforms.

After the meeting, Abu al-Hosn said: 'We visited the Prime Minister to continue the consultations and confirm the good relations between Mukhtara and the Center House. We discussed the electricity file and it was a deep scientific discussion in the presence of specialists and we agreed on a number of steps.'

He added: 'The main focus was to act quickly to save the electricity sector from the situation in which it is floundering and the start of the solution would be by implementing the laws. There are laws passed in Parliament, and there is a plan that the Prime Minister seeks to apply. We will work together through a joint committee between the two groups and then we will present the recommendations to the Cabinet. The Prime Minister has the desire and intention to form a ministerial committee concerned mainly with the electricity file. Today, we emphasized the importance of implementing the law, firstly by appointing a new board of directors for EDL, and the regulatory committee for the electricity sector. We will continue the discussion through the joint committee that we agreed on today.'
