State TV to air Lebanon matches

BEIRUT: State-run broadcaster Tele Liban will broadcast Asian Cup matches featuring the Lebanese national team, the state-run National News Agency reported Tuesday.

Tele Liban apologized for not being able to air all of the international football competition’s matches, saying caretaker Information Minister Melhem Riachi had made the decision to limit the broadcast because of the high sum demanded by the licensed carrier, beIN Sports.

Lebanon qualified for the Asian Cup for the first time ever this year, though the country hosted the cup in 2000 and the team qualified by default. The Cedars’ first match is set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Qatar, after which they will face Saudi Arabia Saturday at 6 p.m. and North Korea on Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.
