Berri underlines need for expedited government formation

House Speaker Nabih Berri's visiting lawmakers within Wednesday Gathering quoted him as underlining the need for an expedited government formation.


In the wake of their weekly meeting with the Speaker at his Ain el-Tineh residence, visiting Lawmakers said that the Speaker has called for a meeting of the Parliament upcoming Tuesday to elect members of the parliamentary committees.


'In the absence of any developments in the file of the government formation, he [Berri] may call for a general assembly session to deliberate over the current situation in the country,' visiting MPs said in the wake of the meeting.


Visiting Lawmakers also relayed Berri's keenness on addressing the current economic situation and daily living conditions.


Berri noted that fighting corruption requires the implementation of parity, equal opportunities and jobs on the basis of competence.


Berri has called for a meeting of the Parliament upcoming Tuesday at 11.00 am to elect members of the parliamentary committees.


On the other hand, Berri received a letter from Pakistani House Speaker, Mohammad Sadiq Sinjarani, bearing on an invitation to visit Pakistan.


Berri also received a letter from Kazakhstan's House Speaker, Nolan Nigmatolin, stressing cooperation between both countries' parliaments.


This afternoon, Berri welcomed an Indonesian parliamentary delegation, led by Indonesian Vice Speaker Fadli Zon, in the presence of Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ahmed Khamidi.


Discussions reportedly dwelt on means of bolstering bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.


Speaking in the name of the Indonesian Parliament, Zon stressed Indonesia's constant support to Lebanon, extending an invitation to Berri to visit Indonesia shortly.


Zon also voiced Indonesia's keenness on strengthening relations between the peoples of both countries.
