Beirut International Festival honors Culture Minister, Arab and International Artists

Caretaker Culture Minister Ghattas Khoury hoped that efforts would succeed in reviving the social, artistic and economic facets of Beirut's Nejmeh Square, after reviving it politically.

Khoury's words came as he represented Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri at the Beirut International Festivals Awards Ceremony [BIAF] held at Nejmeh Square yesterday evening under the PM-designate's patronage, with a crowd of prominent artists and media professionals from the Arab and Western world attending.

Minister Khoury received an award in honor of his remarkable achievements and the distinctive mark he has left at the Culture Minister through his valuable contributions and accomplishments.

After receiving the award, Khoury thanked the Festival Organizers for this significant initiative, noting that 'it is customary that the public sector honors the private sector, but 'BIAF' has reversed the rule and proved that the private sector can excel and accomplish a lot.'

'The importance of the event today lies in gathering together at Nejmeh Square and in everyone's desire, especially PM-designate Hariri, in reviving it,' Khoury added.

In turn, Festival President Michel Daher addressed the attendees, saying that 'BIAF' has attracted the pillars of culture, art and creativity from different parts of the world to the vibrant heart of Beirut.

He thanked, on behalf of the Beirut International Festivals Committee, the Lebanese Parliament Council, Ministries of Tourism, Culture, Tele-Communications and Information, and Beirut Governor Ziad Shbib, Beirut Mayor Jamal Itani and Solidere Company for their contributions in ensuring the Festival's success.

It is to note that the awards ceremony was directly transmitted via a number of local and satellite television channels, namely: Lebanon TV, Future TV, New TV, CBC Egypt, OSN Ya Hala, LBC Satellite, Rotana Music and Radio Sawt Al-Ghad.
