Paris to Host International Meeting on Lebanon

Dec 07

Paris will host a meeting of Lebanon''s Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Friday, with senior representatives of several countries, including the permanent members of the UN Security Council, the Foreign Ministry reported today.

According to the ministry, the meeting's goal is to contribute to the political stabilization process in Lebanon at an important moment, which will include 'a message at the same time for the parties in Lebanon and the countries of the region.'

Hariri will meet with senior representatives of the permanent member states of the Security Council (United States, France, United Kingdom, Russia and China), as well as Germany, Italy and Egypt.

The announcement of the meeting in France comes just a few hours after Hariri withdrew his resignation, a resignation presented just a month ago from Saudi Arabia.

As a result of that fact and the politician's stay in Riyadh, Lebanon lived days of tensions and denunciations that the resignation had been imposed by the Saudi kingdom.

Two weeks later Hariri returned to Beirut and after a political negotiation, today announced the decision to withdraw the resignation.
